about

My Grandfather used to take us into the Nevada desert to places that had long since disappeared from the memory of most. He called these excursions, "Ghost Chasing". I remember these trips fondly. When he passed away I wrote this song to keep his memory alive. The picture that accompanies this song is a picture of Slim Williams my Grandpa...my Mom's Daddy. He will always be in my heart and mind. Love you, Grandpa.

lyrics

You've always been such a cowboy.
I never want you to change.
You're still sitting tall in the saddle, I know;
With your hat turned down in the rain.

There's an orange desert sun setting over your head.
You're movin from town to town.
The ghosts ain't been there for many years,
But the cowboy is chasin them down.

Oh, cowboy,
Oh, my childhood friend
Oh, cowboy,
May your ghost chasin days never end.

We remember Papa, straight and tall.
Firm, gentle and wise.
His pipe on the table and when we were able,
We'd see him and love in his eyes.

I remember my momma said;
No matter where her daddy roamed.
A touch of his hand, a nod of his head;
Could make her feel like she had a home.

He'd sit for hours, playin those games.
Counting the cards one by one.
Tellin us tales of the wilds he'd tamed.
Papa, can you tell us another one.

The stories that I tell my children.
Are stories that my Grandpa told to me.
Cause he could spin a yarn as long as his arm;
The stories, they never grew old.

Oh, Papa
Oh, my childhood friend
Oh, Papa
May your ghost chasin days never end.

May your ghost chasin days never end.
